reSee works
Planning on building a 912 POLO? Use the CONTACT US on the toll bar. Tell us about your project in the works.
This is a 912E Polo car being built in Europe. I expect it will be done in 2013 or 14. The owner is a tech busy with customer cars.
Hi Chris,
I can not find the time these days to work on the engine. The last complete year I worked in my new shop.
So in the moment I've a lot of work with some engines because the customers are waiting.
And for the future I've want to build with Deans short block a short version of the Porsche GT3 engine.
If the customer orders are processed I will contact Dean to talk about this project.
Chris when you want to use my photos on your website it is a pleasure for me when you do that.
I've a lot of more photos when I find the time I will send some more.
Bye for now
Ralph

Chris,
I will try to explain my dream.
All on the market available GT3 engines have an aircooled enginecase of the last generation ( 993 ).
So what is the difference the dimensions of the stud pattern fort the heads are the same. That is the key for all the other things so you can use and modify the parts you need from the long version like Dean has done in the past.
The cylinders have a water jacket, and the cylinerheads are also watercooled and have 4 valves. I have a defective GT3 enginecase as a model to see the detailed changes.
I have 2 sets of the watercooled cylindercases and 3 cylinderheads from different model years of the cars. The last generation of this engines has a capacity of 3996ccm
and 500 horsepower. In details 80,4mm stroke and 102,7mm pistons. So you can calculate the power output of a short version 2664 ccm and more than 300 horsepower.
The car for installing is the same like the aircooled one the 912E

Since the November 2012 Excellence issue (205) on my car, others are showing interest.

Dean called looking for a engine mount. I will have more soon. He has a customer in Hong Kong in the process of building one.

Others in the process.

912 POLO
 Hey Chris,

Hope you are well.
Thought I would drop you a note and let you know I ended up speaking to Dean, great guy, and committing to a Polo build - very excited.
Great to see the continued positive press on your 912, solid inspiration for sure.
Your Brother in Law is close to me, btw, I am just off Irvine between Santiago and Highland.
Kevin

Chris
Well, Dean is progressing on my engine (what a great guy), and the balance of my 912R project is trundling along - many months until mine joins the ranks, trying to be patient as we have much to do. Chris, thanks for paving the path.

Chris,
I don't think I answered. The draft plan in process for my '67 is 104mm bore and 78mm stroke, twin spark, should net just north of 2.6 in size. Heads will be 54mm intake, and 43mm exhaust, filled by 48mm IDA Webers. Rods are Pauter Titanium with GT3 bearings. Have not determined exhaust yet but would really like a center low panel exit, like a GT3.

I just added a picture of Kevin's 2.7 liter long block with CMW heads. My 2.4 is really good. His engine will be unreal!

Chris,
I am building a 356 Polo That I hope to have in paint soon. Bruce Schmid has been doing the body work and rear suspension modifications on the car and will do the paint. I have all the components for the Polo engine for that car and have ordered a second Polo case and crank from Dean that I will install in a 1967 912 that has yet to be restored. So I am just collecting parts now for the 912 and thought I would see if you have a rear motor mount available.
Regards,
Jeff

Chris,
Yes Dean is going to build a motor for me. I'm pretty excited about that. I'm ok with having to wait. I leaning (heavily) in the direction of turning our '69 912 Coupe into an rs clone, albeit with a twist. I think it'd be pretty cool. I know there will be a lot of people that would ridicule me for putting SO much money in a "lowly 912" - but really I could give a rip. I have a specific vision in my head of how it should be, and ONLY when I open the lid will they know that it was a 12 that beat them! I'll keep you posted along the way. Still want to meet up with you when I get out your way, so I'll give you a call to see where you're at. So, please tell me the feedback/interest you've gotten on yours, especially after the Excellence write up. You built an incredible car by the way, it's beautiful! I hope you're enjoying it. Any calls from Jerry!?!
Doug

Checking in Chris, how are you doing my friend? Hope your Christmas and New Years were safe and uneventful. I assume Dean is parts assembling as I continue to send him money!?! Haven't spoken to him yet this year. I think I've decided to go carbureted on ours vs injected. What do you think? Also, what (if anything) would you do differently on your build, if doing it over again? Also, how/what do we massage to get more hp out of it? I'm collecting parts for the build, going the way of an RS look but using lots of carbon fibre to keep it as light as possible. We just left calif (SB) today after a weekend visit with fam. It is a beautiful place but we are glad to be in KC. Should be out in CO in the next few weeks and will give you a call to see if you are around. I see you'll be out west in march, I was hoping to go to the lit meet and car show but have a conflict, so hopefully next year. What's new in your world? Doug

As of 9/2014
A second 912 POLO car is on the road. It was built at the 901 Shop in Florida. I'm hoping to get a picture or two in the near future.
My understanding is that it's a 1969 Irish Green car.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the mail, much appreciated. I followed the build of your car and it convinced me I didn't want a 911 and had to have an early 912 instead with the intention of putting a Polo in it. I picked up the kit from Dean in October and he’s also sourced some barrels, pistons and cylinders for me. I’ve got lots of questions about stuff like the fan shroud, exhaust and the body modifications in the back of the car are many more!

Aside from, the questions I’m also interested in some of the modifications you did on your car such as the seat mechanism replacement and the custom gauges. Being a ’66 mine comes with green ones and although it might be easier to find a set of black ones that cover all the bases I’d quite like to retain the green ones.

I think the project will start sometime next year and I think it’ll take two or three years to get through.

Regards, Mat.
