This is a 53,000 mile 1969 4 speed 912 that will be converted to a 2.7 POLO 5 speed. It will have extensive mechanical upgrades that will be covered as they are added. The car is getting a new dash, steering wheel, a rear shelf to replace the rear seats and some dashboard jewelry. The rest of the interior will stay as is. Come back from time to time to see new developments. For now here are a few pictures.
Questions need to be asked on the www.912bbs.org site under Renegades, 69 912 POLO
5/2/17 Heat exchangers in for a haircut.
The car will have late 70's early 80's 3.0 bolt spaced BMW 323iS Euro front calipers. Check out the difference in pad size compared to the M front pad.
Rears will be M calipers. Rotors vented SC front and vented M rear. The rotors will be chilled (cryoed).
I have an extra set of the BMW calipers if someone is interested. Like new, totally rebuilt.
The car will get a hand throttle, driver, and passenger heat levers. The levers have been polished. Now this batch will go off to get clear zincked.
5/4/17 Added a few pictures of how the heat exchangers will be altered and the 2 into 1 from the heat exchangers to a V band. From there we can go to a 6 lb
single 2 stage muffler, or to a X pipe into a sport or stock muffler. With the POLO we have 7 or 8 inches more room back of the engine to play with.
Sitting here and staring at the route from the fan down through the engine tin it will stay the same. Once through the tin I have a different design.
I'll post that later..
5/12/17 More heat and exhaust work. Things are starting to take shape.
5/14/17 Changed out the headlights. No more sugar scoops!
5/15/17 The pictures should give you a good idea of what the heat exchanges will look like. Once done they will get a ceramic treatment to hold the heat in.
Gauges off to NH.
5/24/17 We got some clear zinc parts back today. They came out very nice. The heat and cold start throttle will have just a little bling. The red knobs on the
levers were rotated 180 degrees as these are now heater levers not for defrost.
The heater plumbing is a work in process. I'll order the muffler from Jack Burns soon.
The engine, transmission, suspension, and brakes should come off the car soon. Those and a few steel body panels will be loaded up and taken to the
owner for storage in case someone wants to take it back to stock.
6/23/17 I added a couple pictures of the heat exchangers. They're almost done. Some electrical tape on 6 and 7 X16's. That's a 6.5X16 on my car with the two taped up 6 and 7 inch wheels. More pictures to follow soon.
7/14/2017 The car's exhaust system is just about done other than a little plumbing to the heater valves. The car will go back to it's original color over the next several months along with several aluminum panels. While that's going on the suspension, gauges, wheels, rear shelf replacing the rear seats and etc, etc, etc,
will get attention.
The 911 muffler I had on my car before weighed 23.5 pounds. The tubes, muffler, and hangers weigh 14.4. The headers I had were 8 pounds and the
modified 993 heat exchangers weigh 9 pounds. (Down from 13.5 pounds) So we were able to take 7 or 8 pounds off the car from the previous design and move it all forward 2 or 3 inches.
